Update! Race leader collected

After being passed over by ten consecutive cachers it was 11th time lucky for EmCache TB Race leader Greedy Green Frog which has been collected by German cacher Papabaer. What is it about geocachers that so many name themselves after bears?

Update! Just for a change, a TB is placed in a cache

Lgxkls' Karon's Promise EmCache Racer Travel Bug has been placed into this cache in Cornwall, adding 155.2 miles to it's total distance travelled, moving it up two places into 8th position in the race rankings. This is my calculation of the distance travelled as cacher clawtech_ratbag who was holding the TB unintentionally logged it into the wrong cache.

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas to all my fellow emCache members who entered a trackable in the 2009 / 2010 TB Race, without whom this blog wouldn't be possible, and without wanting to panic anyone unduly, there is now a (slightly) ominous countdown added to the bottom of this page, below the race placings.

Have a good one cachers!

Random stats no.21; Letting go is so hard to do

Five entries in the 2009 / 2010 EmCache TB Race are currently in the hands of cachers;

niknrich's Nosey Pup TB, held by Hillhappy1 for 2 days
lgxkls' Karon's Promise TB, held by clawtech_ratbag for 4 days
peachleaf's Definitive GC, held by diebaeren for 32 days
Katie 2000's Needles TB, held by grizzly-bear for 60 days
Mrs Web Rat's Definitive GC, held by The leckie boys for 73 days.

Grizzly-bear has visited several caches since collecting Katie 2000's Travel Bug, so he may have dropped it into one but forgotten to log. I'll check at my earliest opportunity. Ironically at the time of collecting the TB he commented that it hasn't travelled much for a Travel Bug!

UK Counties visited; version 9

Another quiet day for moves in the 2009-2010 EmCache TB Race, so it's time for the old standby of a UK Counties visited map, now updated to include Gwent and Hereford & Worcestershire, based on one found here;

The 22 previous counties visited are Cambridgeshire, Ceredigion, Clwyd, Cornwall, Derbyshire, East Sussex, Greater London, Greater Manchester, The Isle of Wight, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Surrey, West Yorkshire and Wiltshire.

Good going for a race that is only about a quarter run. Now, how about some kindly cacher taking a racer North of the Border for Hogmanay?

Random stats no.20; Distance

Here's a list of the top ten moves. The figure in brackets is the TB's current race placing.

1. Greedy Green Frog Emcache Racer (1st) 1775.6 miles
2. Greedy Green Frog Emcache Racer (1st) 1591.9 miles
3. The Web Rat's emCache Racer (2nd) 1252 miles
4. The Web Rat's emCache Racer (2nd) 1210.2 miles
5. RascalGaskells emCache Racer - Cachehopper (3rd) 1198.8 miles
6. RascalGaskells emCache Racer - Cachehopper (3rd) 1194.6 miles
7. Lucky Lottie emCache racer "Holiday Bug" (7th) 352.7 miles
8= peachleaf's emCache Racer (4th) 265 miles
8= The Web Rat's emCache Racer (2nd) 265 miles
10. The Great Galaxy Seekers - emCache Racer - Big Ben Geocoin (6th) 229.8 miles

This just goes to prove the obvious fact that TBs that have the longest moves gain higher race placings.

The ten shortest moves are;

1. emCache racer - Emo the Fast Fish (18th) 0.3 miles
2. Geohunter-X emcache Racer (Horsey Neigh Neigh) (8th) 1.6 miles
3= Geohunter-X emcache Racer (Horsey Neigh Neigh) (8th) 1.7 miles
3= Karon's Promise emCache TB Racer (10th) 1.7 miles
5. Katie 2000 emCache racer "Needles" (11th) 2 miles
6. Geohunter-X emcache Racer (Horsey Neigh Neigh) (8th) 2.1 miles
7= John's triceratops emcache TB racer (OUT) 2.7 miles
7= RascalGaskells emCache Racer - Cachehopper (3rd) 2.7 miles
9. Katie 2000 emCache racer "Needles" (11th) 2.8 miles
10. Geohunter-X emCache Racer (Horsey Neigh Neigh) (8th) 3.4 miles

As expected, Travel Bugs with shorter single moves are lower down in the overall race placings. The multiple appearances of Geohunter-X's TB is due to having been dipped several times by the first cacher to collect it.

Update! The Great Galaxy Seekers' Big Ben strikes

Random stats no.19; Left on the shelf

EmCache Travel Bug Race leader greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog has now been left in the container by eight consecutive visitors to this cache.

UK Counties visited; version 8

I just had to post an eighth version of the EmCache Travel Bug Race 2009/2010 UK Counties visited map as between us, our racers have bisected the nation! Map is current as of noon on December 15th 2009, adapted from one found here

The county that did the deed is Lancashire, to add to Cambridgeshire, Ceredigion, Clwyd, Cornwall, Derbyshire, East Sussex, Greater London, Greater Manchester, The Isle of Wight, Kent, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Surrey, West Yorkshire and Wiltshire. Now, how about some kindly cacher taking a racer North of the Border?

Garland Gang's EMCACHE RACER JACKO Travel Bug has been placed in this cache near the village of Belmont in Lancashire. The 11.3 miles added to JACKO's total distance haven't moved him up the race positions, but every mile counts! Cacher Hillgorilla was only the third visitor to the cache, which was published more than two months ago, so JACKO may have a long wait to be collected, but in geocaching finders can come in clusters, so who knows?

Update! A little bit late...

The Great Galaxy Seekers' Big Ben GeoCoin has been placed in this cache. In fact it was placed there more than a month ago, but has only just come to my attention. I emailed cacher Gorraine a couple of weeks ago asking him to log the coin out of GCZ5EX Wheal Friendly ruins but he never replied. I've added the 24.5 miles appropriate to this move and hopefully another cacher will move the coin on shortly.

In related news, I have emailed German cachers diebaeren to ask if they could confirm that they are holding peachleaf's GeoCoin, but I haven't received a reply so far.

Random stats no.18; Hanging around

Welsome to a special edition of Random Stats dedicated to oceanblue07970, who's EmCache TB Racer - Pat's Special Delivery has been stuck in this traditional cache for 71 days and counting. Is he on strike?
Second on the loiterers list is Lucky Lottie's "Holiday Bug" TB which has been vacationing in this German multi-cache for 52 days.
Third longest lingerer is Geopirate4's Definitive GeoCoin, which hasn't budged from this multi-cache for 38 days.

Also a special mention must be made of JohnnyBGoode's You Want Fries With That? and Sukygoeswandering's From Leicestershire With Love Travel Bugs that were teleported on October 14th and haven't been seen since. Did Coppers Lot forget to put a sixpence in the electric meter?

Random stats no.17: Oldest cache visited

As of noon on 5/12/2009, the oldest cache visited by an entry in the EmCache 2009 / 2010 Travel Bug Race is Alien's Hideaway, placed September 9th 2001 and visited by geopirate4's GeoCoin. Second oldest is Blighty - Rutland, placed October 13th 2002 and visited by Geohunter-X's Horsey Neigh Neigh. Third on the list is Any Fort In A Storm (Staffordshire) which dates from 29/12/2002 and visited by my own Emo the Fast Fish TB.

Update! Geohunter-X's Horsey Neigh Neigh collected from a cache that it wasn't in

Experienced cacher bleaklow has collected geohunter-x's Horsey Neigh Neigh, not from the cache that it was listed as being in, but from one 0.13 of a mile away. The previous holder of the TB, simonwarnes, visited both caches on the same day, so at the moment I'm acting on the belief that he accidentally logged it into the wrong cache (although it is possible that Horsey was moved by a third party) and as the difference is so small no adjustment in distance will be made at the moment.

Random stats no.15; How fast?

To work out which Travel Bugs are travelling the fastest in the EmCache TB race I divided the distance travelled by the hours travelling, starting at noon on the day that the trackable was launched from EmCache's September meeting, up to noon today, and came up with following chart (rounded to two decimal points);

1. greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog, 2.04 mph
2. The Web Rat's Emcache Racer, 1.54 mph
3. RascalGaskells' Cachechopper, 1.38 mph
4. peachleaf's Emcache Racer, 0.3 mph
5. uk89camaro's Piston head Pete (& Dave), 0.24 mph
6. Lucky Lottie's Holiday Bug, 0.2 mph
7= The Great Galaxy Seeker's Emcache Racer, 0.13 mph
7= Itchys' Crown Jewels, 0.13 mph
7= lgxkls' John's stegasaurus, 0.13 mph
10. Katie 2000's Needles, 0.1 mph
11= Garland Gang's JACKO, 0.09 mph
11= Mrs Web Rat's Emcache Racer, 0.09 mph
13= Geohunter-X's Horsey Neigh Neigh, 0.07 mph
13= Geopirate4's Emcache Racer, 0.07 mph
15. Garland Gang's LOUIS' VROOM VROOM!!, 0.06 mph
16= Slightly Tall Paul's Emo the Fast Fish, 0.05 mph
16= lgxkls' Karon's Promise, 0.05 mph
18. niknrich's Nosey Pup, 0.03 mph
19= JohnnyBGoode's You Want Fries With That?, 0.02 mph
19= Oceanblue's Pat's Special Delivery, 0.02 mph
19= Sukygoeswandering's From Leics With Love, 0.02 mph

Well, what do you know, one trackable is almost travelling at walking pace, whilst most of the others are almost standing still!

Monday 30 November 2009

Random stats no.14; Distance

Emo the Fast Fish's mini-move yesterday reminded me that I hadn't mentioned any distance stats for a while, so here's a quick note on longest and shortest moves:

Longest single move is 1775.6 miles by greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog emCache Racer.
Shortest single move is 0.3 miles by my own Emo the Fast Fish emCache Racer.

Scroll down to bottom of this page for total distances travelled by each EmCache TB race entry.

Update! Emo back in the swim of things

Emo the Fast Fish emCache Racer was collected yesterday by shropshire seekers who then dropped him in the next cache that they came across, adding three-tens of a mile to his total distance travelled. It all counts!

Not counting Discovered logs, a total of 47 cachers (including DieBaeren whom I believe are holding peachleaf's GeoCoin) have collected EmCache Travel Bug 2009/2010 Race entries, including 9 EmCache members, 6 of whom have trackables of their own in the race.

OnlyMeUK, FiddleMad and stevo185 are the only EmCache members without a trackable in the race to have collected an entry.

Astrollamas, Coppers Lot and FiddleMad are the only cachers to have collected more than one racer.

Random stats no.11; How far away now?

If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you will see the current distance travelled of all entries in the EmCache 2009-2010 TB race, but how far are the trackables (that are not in the hands of a cacher) from their starting point?

Considering only Travel Bugs and GeoCoins that are at present resting in caches, the one furthest away from the starting point is peachleaf's emcache Racer at 371.9 miles, while the closest is Oceanblue's Emcache racer - Pat's Special Delivery, still just 3.3 miles away from Bradgate.

The other Travel Bugs and GeoCoins currently in caches are;
Lucky Lottie's Holiday Bug, 357.2 miles away
The Web Rat's emCache Racer, 258.6 miles away
Itchy's Crown Jewels, 117.5 miles away
Geohunter-X's Horsey Neigh Neigh, 91.7 miles away
Garland Gang's LOUIS' VROOM VROOM!!, 80.3 miles away
lgxkls' John's Stegasaurus, 73.8 miles away
Garland Gang's JACKO, 73.6 miles away
GeoPirate4's Definitive GC, 61.2 miles away
Slightly Tall Paul's Emo the Fast Fish, 39.2 miles away

All other entries are currently being held by cachers.

Time for a sixth version of the EmCache Travel Bug Race 2009/2010 UK Counties visited map, current as of noon on November 23rd 2009, adapted from one found here.

Two new counties visited by an EmCache TB race entry in the last five days, Greater London and Surrey, to add to Cambridgeshire, Ceredigion, Clwyd, Cornwall, Derbyshire, East Sussex, Greater Manchester, The Isle of Wight, Kent, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire and West Yorkshire. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you will see the current distance travelled of all entries in the EmCache 2009-2010 TB race, but how far are the trackables (that are not in the hands of a cacher) from their starting point?

Interestingly the distance leader greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog is also the furthest away at 375.2 miles from Bradgate, while the closest is Oceanblue's Pat's Special Delivery which is only 3.3 miles away from where it started!

ITCHYthirdEYE's Travel Bug Itchys' Crown Jewels has been placed by climber1958 into this cache in Ceredigion, West Wales increasing it's total distance travelled by 103.1 miles and putting it right on the heels of uk89camaro's Piston head Pete & Dave TBs for highest milage for a race entrant that hasn't travelled overseas.

Speaking of Piston head Pete & Dave, they were picked up from Rocket two days ago by Kent-based cacher ddr1711, so is a trip to the South-East likely?

Random stats no.6: Distance

Here is an update to last Friday's stats relating to distance:
Longest single move is 1591.9 miles by greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog emCache Racer.
Shortest single move (excluding three entrants that have yet to move, you know who you are lads!) is 1.6 miles by GeoHunter-X's emCache Racer (Horsey Neigh Neigh) Travel Bug.
Total distance moved so far by all entrants is 5843.7 miles, an average of 254.1 miles for each racer, or an average of 127 miles per move.

Thursday 22 October 2009

Update! 1591.9 miles in one hop? That's Greedy!

Greedy Green Frog shows that playing leapfrog is a piece of cake! After no news for a few weeks, yesterday Lansdown dropped greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog TB in this cache on the Atlantic island of Madiera and it was picked up almost immediately by German cacher DerBar. How lucky can one frog be?

In other news, Karon's Promise Travel Bug has been collected by XTrailers, although at the time of posting this update they had not yet logged the TB out of the cache.

Update! peachleaf's GeoCoin safe, Karon's Promise moves along

mturenhout was somewhat premature with their muggle fears for Three Of A Kind, as superstein has found the cache and collected peachleaf's Definitive GeoCoin.

Additionally, Nottingham cacher Darkfonz has placed Karon's Promise in a new cache that he had published last night, Call of Duty 4. I had a look for this cache this morning but the co-ords were a little out and I didn't have time for a thorough search of the area. Perhaps another member of EmCache will be First-to-Find now that revised co-ordinates have been published? Good to see a photograph of Karon's Promise on it's tracking page. A gift from Mr. Holland perhaps?

Scroll to bottom of this page for current race placings. I.H.O. means being held by the named cacher, rather than in a cache.

Monday 19 October 2009

Update! Itchy looking good, Mrs Web Rat & peachleaf not so good

I was wondering why 9 cachers all passed up the chance to take Itchy's Crown Jewels yesterday, well now the mystery is solved as climber1958 collected Itchy's TB on Saturday, but has only just logged his find.

In other news BBreezers have reported no TBs present in The Three Rs #2 which should contain Mrs Web Rat's race entrant. Perhaps they didn't count it because it's a GeoCoin, not a Travel Bug? Additionally, Dutch cacher mturenhout has reported that Three Of A Kind (current home of peachleaf's GeoCoin) has possibly been muggled, due to the grass being cut?! Hopefully it is just a case of an inexperienced cacher assuming that a cache has been muggled because he can't find it.

As always, scroll down to bottom of this page for current race placings.

Sunday 18 October 2009

Update! A fourth race entrant makes it overseas

Lucky Lottie's Holiday Bug TB has been placed in this multi-cache in the Nordrhein-Westfalen region of Western Germany, therefore gaining it's first asterisk to show that it has travelled overseas.

That means that 3 EmCache TB Race entrants are currently resting in multi-caches, the rest are either in traditionals or In The Hands Of a cacher.

Update! Emo goes for swim in a canal

In other news, geopirate4's GeoCoin was transferred to the UK TB Graveyard, only to miraculously re-appear in the cache, Alien's Hideaway that it went missing from, having seemingly been there the whole time. Welcome back little EmCache Racer!

Random stats no.4; Finders

Not counting Discovered logs, and excluding geopirate4's GeoCoin, a total of 13 cachers have collected EmCache Travel Bug 2009/2010 Race entrants, including 4 EmCache members, 3 of whom have trackables of their own in the race.

RascalGaskells' Cachehopper is the only entrant to be collected by 3 different cachers, and OnlyMeUK is the only EmCache member without a trackable in the race to have collected an entrant.

Wednesday 7 October 2009

Random stats no.3; Caches visited

Another slow day, so here are the stats on caches visited (excluding the starting cache);
Runaway leader in this category is Katie 2000's Needles Travel Bug which has visited 6 caches, all in Leicestershire.
RascalGaskells' Cachehopper TB has visited 3 caches (including one in Spain) and three other entries have visited 2 caches each. All the others have been logged into 1 each except for the three competitors that haven't yet left the starting line.
Total caches visited (including duplicates) is 30, or 1.3 per racer.

Tuesday 6 October 2009

Random Stats No.2; Distance

Tuesdays must be a slow day in terms of Travel Bug moves, so here is an update to last Tuesday's stats relating to distance:
Longest single move is 1198.8 miles by RascalGaskells Emcache racer - Cachehopper Travel Bug.
Shortest single move (excluding three entrants that have yet to move, you know who you are lads!) is 1.7 miles by Karon's Promise Travel Bug.
Total distance moved so far by all entrants is 1942.1 miles, an average of 84.4 miles for each racer, or an average of 64.7 miles per move.

Monday 5 October 2009

Update! Call that a hop? And has an entrant been the victim of piracy?

I would be more likely to describe it as a massive leap, as RascalGaskells' Cachehopper TB takes a huge lead in the race thanks to astra-nomical placing it in this cache in Andalucia, Southern Spain, therefore Cachehopper becomes the first entrant to have an asterisk added after the milage to show that it has travelled overseas. A second asterisk will be added if it returns to the UK, which is very likely as it has now been collected by Yorkshire based cacher overanout.

In other news geopirate4's definitive geocoin has been reported absent from the cache that it should be in and it's location has been adjusted to whereabouts unknown. Hopefully this is just a case of a newbie cacher unsure how to log a trackable and geopirate4's coin will turn up shortly.

Scroll down to the foot of this page for latest race placings. I.H.O. means In The Hands Of, i.e. currently in the possession of a cacher.

Update! Piston Head Pete (& Dave) dip into 2nd place

Swirl and Wag have dipped uk89camaro's Piston Head Pete (with Dave) into this cache in North Wales, making Pete the first Travel Bug in the race to leave England, and leaping it up to Second position in the race.

All entrants started from Leicestershire (some virtually) and have since visited Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Kent, West Yorkshire and Staffordshire. I wonder how many counties will be blue by the end of the race?

It is not too late to enter the race!

If any emCache member would like to enter a trackable in the race, it is not too late. Entries will be accepted until niknrich archives the event cache, which will be soon, so be quick!
Simply virtually log your trackable (any item trackable at GeoCaching.Com, whether Travel Bug, GeoCoin, Adventure Guide, Cache Mover, Trakabull, etc is okay) into the emCache September Event and then place into a cache in the East Midlands. Don't forget to let me know, so that I can add your entrant to the blog.

Disaster for John's triceratops emcache TB racer!

It appears that one of the entrants has been eliminated from the race after the muggling of this cache. However, all hope is not lost as Travel Bugs have turned up after unexplained absences in the past.

Additionally the emCache September Event has not yet been archived, so a replacement Travel Bug may be launched!

Update! Dipfest for Katie 2000's Needles Travel Bug
