Final Update!

The 2009 / 2010 EmCache Travel Bug Race came to crescendo of excitement (okay, slight exageration...) at EMcache's 2nd Birthday Bash! as everyone wondered if a race TB would arrive at the last second to snatch one of the podium positions. As it turned out, only three of the race entries made it to the finishing event, but considering the number of TBs and Geocoins that are stolen these days, it was a good finishing percentage.

The delighted winners were;

1st; niknrich's EMcache Racer: Nosey Pup. Nik chose an Original Can of Beans Geocoin as winner's prize.

2nd; ITCHYthirdEYE's SPANK, the Monkey (formerly Itchys' Crown Jewels). Geohunter-X chose a Discover Your World geocoin on Itchy's behalf.

3rd; uk89camaro - Emcache Racer - Piston head Pete and co-pilot Dave, who is 'armless. Uk89camaro received a Help For Heroes geocoin as his prize.

A consolation prize of a Racer Travel Tag was awarded to lgxkls for John's stegasaurus, which (as a triceratops)
was muggled almost immediately and it's replacement only covered 376.2 miles and never left the UK, or, in fact, the Southern half of England!

Here's a final UK counties visited map:

The final five counties added are Cheshire, Gwynedd, Northumberland, Pembrokeshire and West Sussex.

These five additional counties, when added to Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Ceredigion, Clwyd, Cornwall, Derbyshire, Dorset, East Sussex, Essex, Greater London, Greater Manchester, Gwent, Hampshire, NHereford & Worcestershire, Hertfordshire, The Highland Region, The Isle of Wight, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, Shropshire, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Strathclyde Region, Surrey, Tyne & Wear, Warwickshire, West Yorkshire and Wiltshire, make a total of 41 UK counties visited. Pretty good going, I would say.

So, that's all folks until the 2nd EmCache TB Race, whenever that may be. In the meantime, check out The Great Travel Bug Knockout for all your TB racing needs!

Just over two weeks to go...

With only 16 days to go until the Event Cache finale of the 2009 / 2010 EmCache Travel Bug Race, here are some updated moves;

Australian cacher deaning placed Garland Gang's JACKO TB into his own Towering Heights cache, from where it was collected by cacher GR8T who subsequently placed JACKO into this Australian cache. These moves have added 100.5 miles to JACKO's distance travelled.

Cachers DragonsWest have dropped greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog into this Californian cache, adding 136.6 miles. Check out this evocative photo.

JohnnyBGoode's You want fries with that? TB was retrieved from the New Hampshire cache that it was resting in by cacher cknh who passed it on to more active cacher Hillgrove.

ITCHYthirdEYE has retrieved his own SPANK, the Monkey TB from Not for the Faint Hearted and then dipped SPANK into his own Itchys' Alternatives - Bargain Bucket, adding 8.7 miles to it's distance travelled.

UK89camaro has retrieved his Piston head Pete (and Dave!) Travel Bug from last month's EmCache Event Cache and logged him into the EmCache 2nd Birthday Event, i.e. The Finishing Line, adding 6.4 miles to make a total distance travelled of 2673.6 miles, 18 caches visited in 6 UK counties and 2 overseas countries, whilst in the hands of 13 cachers, excluding Discovereds.

Cacher Miniature Hero has placed RascalGaskells' Cachehopper TB into this cache, published 2 days ago, but so-far unfound, adding 9.3 miles to it's distance travelled.

German cacher Blauber has placed Lucky Lottie's Holiday Bug into this German cache, adding 450.4 miles to it's distance travelled.

Good news for oceanblue07970's Pat's Special Delivery Travel Bug at last, as he has been picked up by French cacher buckfast who has dipped Pat into this French cache, not only adding 604.7 miles to Pat's distance travelled, but also adding the much-coveted Overseas Travel asterisk. Now, can Pat get back to the UK in the next 16 days?! BTW, is anyone besides myself amused by the fact that a Frenchman would name himself after notorious Devon tonic wine, tipple of choice for Scots teenagers?

Finally, Garland Gang's LOUIS' VROOM VROOM!! TB has been retrieved from Bream Dream by cacher Pieman.

The Finishing Post has been erected!

EmCache's 2nd Birthday Event Cache has been published. This Event, on October 19th, is the finishing line for the 2009 / 2010 EmCache Travel Bug Race. To be classed as a finisher in The Race an entry must be present at the Event Cache.

Due to this, after a suggestion from uk89camaro, I have listed above the current race positions, based on distance travelled, the entries that have so far been logged into the Event, and can therefore be considered to be "In The Clubhouse".

Update! Making sense of it all (or: Why don't cachers log trackables correctly!!??)

Quite a few moves to catch up on, and I don't have all the information that I need, but as it's getting close to the end of the race, I've decided to try to put together a chronology for a couple of entries as best as I could;

Firstly; Good news for ITCHYthirdEYE, whose SPANK, the Monkey was apparently retrieved from Ellisha Says Geocoins Only by mr. meagi, who hasn't logged a find since May. I've emailed to ask him about SPANK, but have not yet received a reply. SPANK next turned up in one of mr. meagi's caches, from where it was collected by cacher Mangled99, who placed him in a cache at a busy railway station. So busy, in fact, that SPANK was collected the very same day by East Midlands cacher arewethereyet??. The result of all this is the additional of 30.8 miles to it's distance travelled.

Another entry in the 2009/2010 EmCache Travel Bug Race to miraculously transport itself from one cache to another is lgxkls' Karon's Promise Travel Bug, which turned up in this Welsh cache, 119.3 miles from where it should be in West Yorkshire! Karon's Promise has since been retrieved by Gloucestershire cachers Bredon Marshions. If any previously unrecorded moves turn up, additional milage can be inserted.

Much simpler is that peachleaf's GeoCoin was retrieved from the cache that it was resting in by ice-skating cacher skaterli, who placed into this puzzle cache, adding 326 miles to it's distance travelled. It has since been retrieved by Munich-based cachers MuenchnerKindl.

Garland Gang's LOUIS' VROOM VROOM!! continues it's gentle meander around Northwich by visiting this cache, barely a mile-and-a-half from where it retrieved from a week previously by stavvy.

American cacher f1shheadjr is now fishheadjr, and has placed Johnny B. Goode's You want fries with that? TB into this cache in New Hampshire, adding 115.5 miles to it's distance. Johnny's Travel Bug has now visited 6 different U.S. states.

Finally, cachers DragonsWest have gone on a mini dipping frenzy with greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog Adventure Guide, visiting an Earthcache, a CITO, a virtual cache and an event cache, adding a total of 146.8 miles to the little green fellow's milage.

The top 6 placings in the 2009/2010 EmCache TB Race have been shuffled a little, with greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog having been placed into this Californian cache, between San Jose and Santa Cruz, adding 6145.3 miles to it's distance travelled, and pushing it up to 2nd place overall.

Also moving up within the top 6 is Johnny B. Goode's You want fries with that? Travel Bug, now up into 4th place thanks to a move of 413.1 miles into this Connecticut cache.

Update! Pat, the 2009/2010 EmCache Hide'n'Seek Champion

Oceanblue07970's Pat's Special Delivery Travel Bug continues his eratic progress in the 2009/2010 EmCache TB Race by disappearing from a cache in Scotland in May and reappearing two months later in a cache in Twickenham, some 453.1 miles away! After email correspondence with various cachers it turns out that a muggle picked Pat up when she visited the cache that he was resting in with a caching friend. She has now registered with GC.com and dropped Pat into this cache, from where it was retrieved by cacher Mart9012. As a result of this, Pat has now travelled 853.3 miles, putting him into the lead of the UK-only section of the race.

In other news, a cacher has reported Ellisha Says Geocoins Only to be containing no trackables. Unfortunately ITCHYthirdEYE's SPANK, the Monkey TB should be present in this cache...

Update! Lots of distance covered, but no position changes

A few updates to add; cacher dafffy placed greedygreenfrog's Greedy Green Frog into this cache, making the little amphibian the first entry in the 2009/2010 EmCache Travel Bug Race to visit Italy, and adding 700.9 miles to it's distance covered.

Two entries retrieved were ITCHYthirdEYE's SPANK, the monkey TB, collected by cachers the_roys and Mrs. Web Rat's GC which was picked up by cacher lauraxstevenson.

Beating all three of these entries was niknrich's EmCache Racer: Nosey Pup TB which cacher Norfolkbirder both dropped and retrieved from this Norfolk cache, adding another 4449 miles to Nosey pup's walkies!

Finally, just yesterday JohnnyBGoode's You want fries with that? TB was left in this sleepy TB Hotel.

Update! Good news for Garland Gang, great news for OceanBlue!

Good news for Garland Gang, as both of their entries in the 2009 / 2010 EmCache TB Race have been retrieved; JACKO by Kent-based cacher tony_c and, after an interminable 5 months in the same cache, LOUIS' VROOM VROOM!! by Leeds-based cacher Budlaw.

Great news for oceanblue07970 as her TB, Pat's Special delivery, believed lost, has been picked up by Scottish cacher N.I.B.

In fact, it turns out that Pat was never lost at all. A well-respected cacher recorded a DNF on the cache that Pat was in and so the Cache Owner assumed that the cache had gone missing and posted the TB's enclosed as missing, when in fact the cache was still present and has had 6 finders since it was reported muggled, and at least one of those finders didn't take OceanBlue's Travel Bug because it wasn't logged into that cache, thanks to the Cache Owners posting it as missing!
